Hypermobility

Hypermobility is an issue that can impact people in a variety of ways. Some people might notice they have bendy elbows and they can pull their thumb back towards their forearm. Others may struggle to control the extra range they have in a wide range of joints, or that they've lost the arches in their feet and their knees go back further than friends knees do when they straighten their legs.

Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) require specific treatment and muscle retraining to provide more support to joints and ligaments. Chronic pain, muscle fatigue, and joint injuries or overload are common in the hypermobilie body and it requires experienced, targeted physio to make significant lasting change.

People with EDS often struggle with a range of other symptoms as the connective tissue laxity can effect other systems in the body besides the musculoskeletal system such as the digestive and respiratory systems. Sometimes these symptoms seem unrelated but they can be related to their 'floppy', 'bendy', or 'very stretchy' ligaments and muscles.

As someone on the bendier side, Pip has had a lot of experience personally and professionally working with hypermobility.

If you struggle with HSD or EDS it is really important that you find a physio who understands hypermobility disorders and regularly works with people struggling with these chronic issues.

Please feel free to contact Pip if you have any further questions.
